When it comes to inflatable stand up paddle boards, Aqua Marina is easily ranking amongst the top 5 brands in the industry. This manufacturer has established a very positive reputation in the realm of inflatable boards and the key word here is quality.
Aqua Marina has produced over 50 models so far with the purpose of satisfying everybody’s preference. The quality of their boards are undisputed at this point and that shifts their focus towards research in order to upgrade and improve performance and when you compare that to other prominent names in the field, you can easily spot the difference.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that Aqua Marina is the best inflatable stand up paddle board brand out there but it’s definitely a very strong contender which is probably why their new competitive board caught your eye. Nonetheless, let us take a closer look at this product and see if it is really the board you need.
A crucial piece of information to keep in mind is that no matter how good a board is; if it doesn’t fit your profile then your experience will not be the same as it would be with a strong match. Therefore, take your time and make sure that you are getting your money’s worth. That being said, let’s get to it.
We have mentioned quality quite a few times already so let’s take a closer look at the essence of this iSUP.
The body of this Aqua Marina is strictly made of military grade PVC material which is then fortified by a double drop stitch construction and that makes this board virtually indestructible.
That said, you can basically throw this board on any kind of surface, crash it into rocks or even run it over with a car without leaving a visible mark on it but try not to do it on purpose.
The Aqua Marina Race Competitive iSUP is a 14 foot long giant and that makes it perfect for touring/racing in steady water such as rivers, lakes and such but it can be a little bit challenging for beginners to control it in stronger currents.
Nevertheless, this board is targeting competitive paddlers which means that no matter where you ride, you will do just fine. The length of this board is also very useful for meditation practices such as yoga and board workouts.
This Aqua is 6 inches wide which is great especially if you want to use the board with a friend, a pet or even to carry cargo because the thicker the board, the higher the weight limit.
Speaking of which, this board can handle up to 250 lbs without affecting performance a bit and trust me, it doesn’t get better than that.
On the platform of the board, the first thing you spot is the 4 stainless steel D-rings which are connected with a bungee cord to enable you to secure cargo, store your paddle when done using it or even your sandals + One bigger D-ring at the end of the deck to help you secure or tow your board.
Another prominent feature is the huge gripping pad which helps you maintain balance on top of your board and also control it easily; not only that but the pad will come in very handy when you need to climb back up on the deck after falling into the water.
Additionally, if you look at the bottom of the board, you can see that it comes with only one big central fin unlike the standard 3 fins and that is because this is a competitive board before all and 3 fins are going to generate more resistance which contradicts the purpose of this iSUP.
A significant aspect of any board is the pack in which it comes and this board’s package is not bad at all. First thing you spot is the high pressure hand pump which is crucial for any inflatable SUP but it can be a little bit challenging to pump this board up to 15 PSI every time you want to use it. Then comes the custom bag which, in my opinion, is the most valuable item in every package. This backpack carry bag will make transporting this board a piece of cake, all you have to do is deflate it, roll it up, bag it and carry it to the nearest body of water.(same thing for storage: It fits anywhere easily).
